If you have been through Peppercorn Discovery, you know that you eventually create your story through a Bio and networking letter. Then, one of the questions you will ask yourself is, "How do I decide who to send this to?"
There are 5 bucket groups of people that are helpful to reach out to, in the following order:
Senior leaders - C-level, SVP, executive-level, and even board members in a company. Your message to them is focused on getting your story across (Bio and networking letter) and providing a quick/easy Call to Action (CTA). This CTA could be asking to speak to someone on their team or even providing a calendly link so their admin can get you both on the calendar.
Business unit leaders - These are the people who are in the business unit or organization you want to work in. Once again send them your story and a CTA focused on speaking to them.
Business unit employees - These are people within the business unit or organization that might be peers or even folks who might report into the position you are looking at. You want to tell them your story and your CTA is learning about the organization to get insights about culture, people, etc.
Other employees in the company - You can also start to branch out to other people in the company through second-level connections or even might be strangers. Again send your story and provide a clear CTA on where you are trying to go in the company and also gain insights about the company.
HR / Recruiters - Last but not least you can reach out to HR folks and recruiters. Yes, they are last on the list because the four groups of people above are more likely to make a bigger impact in understanding and reading your story! HR and recruiters are trained to look at resumes and not your story so they are not the first people you want to contact!
